A Spring Card

January 13th, 2012

I am longing for Spring.  I’m literally counting how many minutes earlier sunset is each day and savouring the extra little bit of light.  We haven’t had the really wintry weather we had last year, but what is it this year with gales?  I don’t remember it being very windy last year, but we seem to be living in a permanent storm force ten at the moment.  The garden shed has blown off its base and is perched at a very drunken angle in the corner of the garden.  It was in a pretty derelict state when we moved here, so earlier this week I got permission from the landlord to let Adrian loose on it with a crowbar and lump hammer.  I am hoping there may be some planks I can salvage for artwork.

So with thoughts of mild, warm, sunny Spring days ahead, I made this little card with the Breath of Spring stamp set.  It’s stamped in black Versafine on watercolour paper and coloured with Inktense pencils.  I’ve layered it onto some card coloured with Distress stains (Crushed Olive and Pine Needles I think).  It’s mounted onto a lilac pearl card and stuck onto a deep purple scalloped card.

The layered panel stands a little taller than the card itself so it’s almost like a mock stepper card.  I put decorative paper on the back so that if you look at the card from the back, the sticky up bit isn’t just plain.  Well that’s what I’d like you to think, but I actually made the classic mistake of putting my double sided tape all over the back and just as I was about to stick it on, realised there would be exposed adhesive on that back piece so if I ever stuck it in an envelope, it might never come out!

According to the weather forecast, it looks like there’s a lot more Winter to come before I’ll get my warm Spring sunshine.  Ah well, I’ll go hibernate a bit longer in my craft room with those new stamps …

Gorgeous colours Glenda, I looooove that deep purple! The lovely greens provide the perfect foil for those scrummy purple tones, and really do make you think of warmer days. I’ve always loved that stamp set, and the flower head is so pretty. It’s a great card design, I might have to use that one!

We’re getting very frosty mornings now, I’m having to put warm water out for the chickens. Our cat Buzz isn’t so keen on her morning trips out either, roll on the warmer weather!

  3. Almost midday & the frost still has not melted here. I love the way the variegated greens & yellows of the leaves echo the surrounding matting. The reddish tinges in the flower head really bring out the reddish tones of the base purple card too which I’d not have thought of. I must admit this a favourite stamp set of mine & I was looking at it only this morning. Hope Adrian doesn’t damage his neck with all the demolition.

  4. Hello glenda, this is a lovely card. The colours are beautiful & it makes me long even more for Spring.
I worked in the garden this morning, clearing up after the winds. Two fence panels completely shattered & a few more hanging off their posts, masses of branches from the next door eucalyptus tree & assorted other debris. And it was blooomin’ cold too. Still, it felt good to make a start & it was great to see green shoots appearing all over the place.
I hope you & Adrian enjoy the rest of youe weekend.

This is the first time I’ve been able to read this post – wouldn’t load before. I just love this stamp and it certainly makes me think of spring which I thought was on the way until the really hard frosts arrived with fog a couple of days ago although the sun came out during the day.

BOOOOTIFUL I love this stamp set – I sometimes decoupage bits of the flower head and they look fabulous ( but onlywhen I am feeling very generous- it depends who the card is for) lol.
