Oriental Crane Cards

We have a fair weather internet connection at home.  Whenever we get heavy or extended rain, it runs away and refuses to play any more.  We know there’s an intermittent underground fault on the line and the engineers HATE intermittent faults – they much prefer a complete outage as it’s easier to identify and fix.  But there’s a crack in the cable somewhere that hisses and spits whenever it gets a bit wet and we say bye bye internet.

Thankfully we have a good connection at work (which is where I am right now), so I’m getting round to a long overdue update and a brief description of this card that I showed you last week.

And this variation too.

The bottom one is on an 8×8 card and was the first one I did – in fact the very first time I actually stamped with our clear stamps.  I used the Prima circle mask (sold out twice, currently on back order with my supplier at the time of writing) which I inked over with Brilliance Rust ink using a piece of Cut ‘n’ Dry foam.  I stamped the blossom shadow with Versafine Smokey Grey and the blossom itself with Onxy black Versafine.  (Love Versafine with the clear stamps by the way – great coverage).

I stamped the phoenix on top of the coloured mask and wished afterwards that I’d done the phoenix first and masked it so that the colours were brighter.  for the crane card I chose a 6×6 inch card base and despite the difference in colour, it’s the same Brilliance Rust inkpad I used with the mask.   I did however use a different sponge that already had some colour on it.  The stamping is Versafine again, with the blossoms coloured with pencils.  This time I stamped the crane onto a Zippy Strip which I cut out and stuck on.  And no, I only cut out the body, not all those grasses!

(If you’ve not come across Zippy Strips before – they are small self adhesive thin paper labels (39 x 140mm) which are great for skinny images, creating borders or using to make little word stickers. )

Now, an important message – not all of the winners have claimed their prizes from our launch party.  Please click here to see if you are a winner – you have until Friday October 5th to claim your prize.

Well I suppose I better get back to work now – there’s a delivery of new toys stock, to unpack and put on the website ….

  1. I love both of these cards, but particularly the top one, so I was delighted to win these stamps in the launch draw. Thank you for your amazing delivery Glenda. The stamps arrived yesterday, but as I also had a long awaited cataract operation yesterday, it may be a day or two before I get to play with them. Kate x

  2. Both lovely cards, but prefer the crane version, mask works really well – good idea to use the grey for the shadow stamping!

  3. These are both lovely cards Glenda but my favourite is the top one I love the more subtle colours ( although its meant to be the same) and I also prefer the crane

  4. Amazingly effective with the grey & black combined with rust. The tiny touch of colouring with the crane in the first makes the whole very unique & softer overall – especially with the inky remains affecting the Brilliance sponging.
