I have a mild obsession with pens and pencils and I’m always willing to try out a new one.
Even though they’ve been around for a while, it’s only very recently that I tried out a Sharpie poster paint white marker and it’s definitely my new best friend.
I am working in a journal at the moment which has richly coloured painted pages and black pens don’t always show up great on it, so I’m finding that I’m using the white Sharpie a lot.
White is a tricky colour as it has to have a lot of pigment in it to be opaque, otherwise it just comes out grey. The Sharpie pen contains paint and it needs a good shake up before use to mix and disperse all the opaque pigment contained in the paint. Sometimes need to go over the line a couple of times to get the best white, but overall, I’m pretty happy with it.
It’s a pretty fine nib for a paint pen – not as fine as my Zentangle pens, but I gave it a try out anyway.
One thing I will say is that it works best on a smooth surface. My journal is a little bumpy with all the layers of paint and where the pen encounters a bump, it can splutter a little and spit a tiny touch of paint out. But for me that’s a price I’ll happily pay for the benefits of having a good opaque white pen.
I’m still curious though – if anyone has any other recommendations for a really good pen (white or otherwise), I’d love to hear about it.
