We managed to get away for the August Bank Holiday weekend and took ourselves off to a part of Scotland we’ve never been to before – the Kintyre peninsula. If you don’t know where that is, you may not have been around in the late seventies when Paul McCartney made the place famous.
Despite arriving in pouring rain and driving through some pretty scary fog to get to our cottage, we had glorious sunshine for the next three days and spent our time exploring the area and enjoying the music festival that was happening. We absolutely loved it and found the people there to be so friendly and warm with a real sense of community. We sat by the harbour wall for a while on Sunday morning and every single person that walked by had a friendly greeting for us – something that I don’t think would happen back home.
What I wish I had photographed were the palm trees. The gulf stream gives the place such a mild climate that there are palm trees growing there quite happily. Thank you people of Kintyre for your warm welcome, we’ll definitely be back.
