An Explosion of Colour

Published August 28, 2018
I’m thrilled to be part of a joint exhibition with five other local artists at the Harbour Cottage Gallery in Kirkcudbright.  The exhibition is titled ‘An Explosion of Colour’ which of course is right up my street.

As we’ve just moved house, it’s been a huge challenge to get some space set up to paint in our new house and I still haven’t unpacked all my art materials, but I unearthed the paints, the brushes and some canvases and set to.

It was pure joy to get back to painting again after almost a year of having everything packed away.  I worked with some texture and inks, but mainly worked with a mix of fluid and heavy bodied paint, applied with my favourite tools – palette knives and fingers.

If I was feeling poetic, I would wax lyrical about these paintings being inspired by the heady summer mix of sunshine, gardens in bloom and the ever changing quality of light on the landscape around us.  But I think I’ll leave that to the wordsmiths and inivite you instead to soak up some colour and just enjoy the visual poetry I have tried to express in these paintings.

The exhibition runs from August 29th to 8th September 2018 and is open daily from 10.30am to 5.00pm.  I’ll be in the gallery on Saturday 1st September, so if you’re in the area, do pop in and say hello.

Here are a few more photos of work on the walls in the gallery.
