Two day painting workshop at Logan Botanic Garden
Sat 11th & Sun 12th June 2022
Spend one or two days painting with me in the beautiful surroundings at Logan Gardens.
Gardens present a wealth of opportunities for artists and on this two-day painting class, you will use the garden as a starting point for developing ideas and working towards a finished painting to take home with you.
Day 1 – Foundation
On day one, we will warm up with fun exercises using various points in the garden as a starting point. From there we will look at composition, tone, colour and mark making ideas. We will look at ways to simplify what we see in the garden and develop ideas for a strong composition for your final painting. We will then look at ways to prepare your surface with colour or texture and look at how to transfer your sketches to a larger surface.
Day two – Building
On day two, we will explore layering colours and texture, and look at blending and glazing techniques. You will have the chance to try out different ways to apply paint such as palette knives, scrapers, rollers and silicone tools. You will then spend the rest of the day working on your final painting before wrapping up with a friendly group ‘show and tell’ to see what everyone else has produced.
What to bring with you
All art materials will be provided, but you may want to bring the following with you:
• A camera, phone or tablet for capturing reference photos
• A notebook or sketchbook to jot down ideas
• Any favourite drawing tools – pens, pencils, etc
• An apron or protective coverall
The class will take place in a marquee on the lawn right in the heart of the garden. Please wear suitable footwear and be prepared for the Scottish weather as we will be taking walks around the garden.
Bookings for this class are being handled by Logan Botanic Gardens, so if you would like to take part, please email Anne Ramsay – aramsay@rbge.org.uk to book your place.
This is a two day class and you will get the most out of it if you can take part on both days. It may be possible to join the class for just one day, in which case, I will adapt the course content to suit your level of experience.
Children over 12 are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult.
There will be a one hour lunch break and the Potting Shed Bistro will be open for lunches and refreshments on both days.
Price: £180 for 2 days, £95 per day.
